Fire Compliance Activities

A comprehensive review of existing and planned ventilation strategies to minimize the risk of personnel being exposed to conveyor belt related fires with the use of appropriate modelling packages.
All conveyor belt installations in confined mining areas including underground workings, at both fiery and non-fiery mines must be made of retardant textile and reinforced design, as per the SANS 971-2013 standard as amended.
The underground and surface control rooms must have backup power in the form of an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
Provision of an effective means of fire suppression along the length of the conveyor belt.
Positioning of refuge bays must have due consideration to factors such as the traveling conditions from workplace e.g., height, walking surface, gradient, possible disorientation, etc.
